You may have heard of veneers, and might be wondering what they are and how they can help you. If you are struggling with imperfections related to your teeth, our dentist in Aberdeenshire can help to cover them with the use of veneers. We regularly get asked questions about this treatment, so we thought we would compile the most frequently asked ones here.
What are veneers?
To start off, you will want to know what veneers actually are. They are a tooth-coloured and tooth-shaped shell that we use to cover the front of your teeth. They are very thin and are custom-made for you so their appearance is as natural as possible. Our patients have really loved the results of veneers, as they can look just like your natural teeth, but without any imperfections.
Veneers are very diverse due to the fact that you can choose how many teeth you cover. You can simply cover one tooth if it has been slightly chipped for example, or get a whole set of veneers to cover all of your teeth, which is also known as a smile makeover.
What's the process?
When you come to our practice and are interested in getting veneers, we will start off by having a consultation appointment with you. This is a vital step as it allows us to determine whether you are eligible for the treatment, discuss the process and take photos, videos and scans of your teeth. If the consultation is successful and you want to move ahead, we can plan your main appointment.
Once your custom veneers have been made, you will come back to our practice so they can be attached. Our dentist in Aberdeenshire will do this by firstly removing a very thin layer of enamel from the front of your tooth to make way for the veneer. They will then use a dental cement to attach the veneers to the front of your teeth, and activate it with a strong light to help harden it quicker.
How do I look after them?
One of the great things about veneers is that they are extremely easy to maintain. You won't have to use any special cleaning equipment, or do any extensive cleaning routines. All you need to do when you have veneers is make sure you keep up a good routine of brushing and flossing and visit our dentist in Aberdeenshire for regular dental appointments as you usually would. It's as simple as that!
How long do they last?
The amount of time that veneers last largely depends on how well you take care of them. If you keep up a good oral hygiene routine, they can last for around 15-20 years, and sometimes they can be even longer.
Here at Oldmeldrum Dental, our team of highly trained dentists and dental nurses will do everything they can to give you a positive and professional experience whilst receiving veneers. We will make sure that you are 100% comfortable and happy with your results after your treatment, and offer any advice if needed.
